Libby Lord was the teacher of my English class during my senior year in high school. I am forever grateful for the exercise she had to do during our final semester.
She had us write down the lyrics of a song we liked and read them to the class. (I picked “Father and Son” by Cat Stevens.)
After that exercise, I started paying close attention to lyrics. That’s a big reason why “Sleep’s Dark and Silent Gate” by Jackson Browne made the Top 500 countdown, even though it was never released as a single.
