My favorite moment at last week’s airport press conference for Elite Airways had nothing to do with the announcement of direct flights to and from Newark Liberty International Airport beginning Dec. 10. (With flights on Thursdays and Sundays, the schedule is perfect for weekend or week-long getaways to the Big Apple.)
Long after the announcement was made and most of the crowd had left, Eric Menger, director of the Vero Beach Regional Airport, made sure everything was OK with his mother, Connie Menger, who was still sitting in the third row. (Connie sat next to Eric’s wife, Kelly, during the press conference.) The interaction between the mother and son made me smile.
The return of commercial air service to Vero Beach is a big deal, and Elite’s president, John Pearsall, credited Eric Menger for making it happen.
On this day, you could tell Connie Menger was very proud of her son.
