For the past three years, on the first Saturday in December, I’ve spent two hours ringing the bell for The Salvation Army in front of the Walmart in Sebastian.
It’s one of those things that’s a true pleasure to do.
I’m always amazed at the generosity of people. It’s so heartwarming.
For me, the coolest thing is parents allowing their young children to put money in the red kettle. It’s a great lesson in the importance of “giving.”
Standing by the kettle gives you a front-row seat for “people watching.” While some people avoided eye contact, most people smiled and said, “Good morning.”
I even had two gentlemen say, “Thank you (meaning The Salvation Army) for being here.”
