Alice Knowles (age 3) and Riley Stadler (age 6) set up a Alex’s Lemonade Stand last week at the Publix at U.S. 1 and 12th Street. They raised more than $900 in the fight against childhood cancer.
Alice and her mother, Jerrica Knowles, met me at Bob Evans last week to talk about the lemonade stand. It’s not easy interviewing a 3-year-old, but Jerrica said it’s possible the lemonade stand could become a twice-a-year event.
Jerrica said the lemonade stand was a way to empower the girls, instilling in them that they can make a difference in the world.
By the way, I could resist asking Jerrica about her name and Alice, which was a popular name a few generations ago but rarely seen these days.
Jerrica was named after a pro surfer who once made an appearance in the area. Alice was named after her great-grandmother.
