Vero Beach resident Richard Granata was driving through Illinois this summer when he came upon a small town called Piper City.
As you can see in the photo, the population is 850.
Could this be the summer home for employees of Piper Aircraft? After all, Piper employs 850 people.
A reader, Linda Johnson, sent me an email after the mention in this week’s column:
“It is a small world when you come across a name that you recognize,” she wrote. “My husband was born on a farm outside Piper City and spent his life there until he graduated from college. Those small towns were great to grow up in and everybody knew everybody.”
