It was one year ago today (Sept. 29, 2014) that I sent out a mass email to announce what I was going to do after leaving the Press Journal.
Let me tell you, I can relate to the saying, “Time flies when you’re having fun.” It’s been the quickest year of my life! (Which probably isn’t a good thing when you’re in your 50s.)
It’s kind of funny to look at the email below now. For example, I said I hoped to be at 8 pages before the end of the year — thanks to the support of advertisers, I was able to start off at 8 pages and have been there ever since. (Now that I have a business partner in Catherine Caddell, we’re hoping to be at 12 pages before the end of 2015.)

First off, thank you for all the well wishes regarding my departure from the Press Journal. The emails I received were so heartfelt.
I’ve decided to go into business for myself. I’m going to publish a small, weekly newsletter with my column as the main content.
If you can visualize a small booklet with four 8.5 x 11″ pages, that’s what I’ll be doing. I hope to get it to eight pages before the end of the year, but that will depend on advertising sales.
It’ll be called Lemmon Lines. I’m hoping the first issue will be out Oct. 15, but I’d say Oct. 22 is more likely at this point. Again, it will depend on advertising sales. (I’ll be hitting the streets making sales calls right after I press “send” on this email.)

I hope you’ll enjoy my column in the new format. I’m certainly looking forward to it.
