For years, the historical marker for the site of Fort Vinton wasn’t geographically correct.
It had been placed on eastbound State Road 60 just east of 66th Avenue because more people would see it there. Last week, the sign was moved closer to the proper site of the fort, around 122nd Avenue.
County historian Ruth Stanbridge had been trying for years to get the state to move it, and it finally happened. She took this photo after the sign had been placed at its new home.
